SkoLax

SkoLax is more than a game—it’s a community-driven, neo-traditional lacrosse experience designed to bring people together through movement, connection, and fun. Rooted in the Indigenous origins of lacrosse as the Creator’s Game, SkoLax combines tradition with inclusivity, creating a space where everyone—regardless of age, skill level, or background—can come together to play and honor the game’s sacred roots.

What is SkoLax?

SkoLax reimagines lacrosse as a community pick-up game that can be played by any number of participants in an open, welcoming environment. The format is designed to be inclusive, intergenerational, and accessible, celebrating the spirit of lacrosse as a tool for healing, wellness, and togetherness.

Each session is two hours long and includes:

  • First Hour: Warm-ups, teaching the basics to new players, and creating opportunities for everyone to connect.

  • Second Hour: A full community game with simple rules and emphasis on fun over competition.

Why SkoLax?

SkoLax is built on the foundational values of lacrosse:

  • Community Connection: A space where people of all backgrounds can come together, share, and build relationships.

  • Honoring Tradition: By using traditional goal posts and cultural elements, SkoLax pays tribute to lacrosse as the Creator’s Game.

  • Inclusivity: Open to everyone—whether you’ve played lacrosse for years or are picking up a stick for the first time. Skolax is for Indigenous and Non-Indigenous community members alike.

  • Wellness Through Play: Encourages movement, joy, and connection in a safe, supportive environment.

How It Works

  • Equipment Provided: Lacrosse sticks, traditional goal posts, and a soft SwaxLax ball for safe and beginner-friendly play.

  • Field Setup: Played in a park setting on a larger field than traditional lacrosse to accommodate as many participants as needed.

  • Unique Scoring Rules:

    • A goal is scored when the ball hits the goal post or when a player carrying the ball taps the post with their stick.

    • After each goal, teams come together at the center of the field for a jump call, celebrating unity and resetting the play.

    • The game ends when one team scores 7 goals, a sacred number in lacrosse.

]Rules of Play

  1. The ball cannot be picked up with hands.

  2. Light hip checks and stick-to-stick checks are allowed; stick-to-body contact is not.

  3. Safety and respect are paramount—SkoLax is about fun and community, not competition.
