At the Pacific Northwest Native Lacrosse Club, we are committed to a range of programs and initiatives that not only promote the sport of lacrosse but also emphasize cultural significance and community engagement.

Youth Clinics:

  • Introduction to Native Lacrosse Clinics: These sessions are designed to introduce Native youth to lacrosse, emphasizing the sport's skills and cultural heritage. The clinics include:

    • History and Significance of Lacrosse: Educating participants about lacrosse's origins and its role in Native American culture.

    • Basic Skills Training: Teaching fundamental lacrosse skills like passing, catching, cradling, and shooting.

    • Cultural Workshops: Integrating cultural elements into the clinics, such as storytelling, traditional crafts related to lacrosse, and discussions on the spiritual aspects of the game.

    • Health and Wellness: Emphasizing the importance of physical fitness, teamwork, and mental resilience in sports.

Competitions and Tournaments:

  • All-Native Lacrosse Team Participation: Developing a competitive all-native lacrosse team to represent PNWNL in regional and national tournaments. This initiative aims to provide advanced training and competitive opportunities for talented players.

  • Inter-Tribal “Traditional” Lacrosse Tournaments: Organizing and hosting tournaments that invite various Native teams to participate, fostering a sense of community and friendly competition in the original game.

Community and Cultural Initiatives:

  • Cultural Exchange Programs: Creating opportunities for players and community members to learn about different tribal traditions and histories related to lacrosse.

  • Outreach and Collaboration: Partnering with local schools, tribal communities, and cultural organizations to promote lacrosse and its significance in Native American heritage.

  • Mentorship Programs: Establishing mentorship opportunities where experienced players and community members can guide and support younger participants, both in developing their lacrosse skills and in personal growth.

Planned Future Initiatives:

  • Expansion of Youth Clinics: Broadening the reach of our clinics to more tribal communities in the Pacific Northwest.

  • Cultural Preservation Projects: Initiatives focused on preserving and documenting the rich history of lacrosse in Native American culture, including oral histories and traditional lacrosse stick crafting workshops.

These programs and initiatives are at the heart of PNWNL's mission to revitalize the cultural essence of lacrosse and engage Native youth in the sport, fostering a sense of pride, community, and connection to their heritage.
